My customer requested a guard that is more brown than red like the original. The guitar is probably an M38, although that may not make a difference.

I have a late 70’s M36 on the bench. I am trying to locate a replacement pickguard. Will a D28 style guard fit? Any suggestions?

Yes GMC luthier tools is the name.
I always forget it because I associate that name with the American Trucks.
It’s a very handy tool to have though and makes fret pressing very safe and repeatable once it’s set up to the guitars body tilt and neck angle.
I bought it second hand. Price was too good to not try it out at least.
But I like it.

No sweat Ian! I figured you would see this eventually and I’m moving
below snail pace on this. I picked up some of the gel ca and am gonna
use that on the bottom edge of the fingerboard first and see how I feel
about it. I had considered it before but was very worried about squeeze
out even with wax. I’ll post something when its all said and done. -
