Maple bridge plates: plain versus rift/quarter sawn versus laminated
I’m fixing a cedar top guitar with a big bulge and a bad bridge plate. Ideally I’d like a replacement plate with optimal stiffness in both directions and a thickness between 0.090 – 0.100″.
After I flatten the top as much as possible, should I:
1. use plain sawn maple
2. use quarter sawn maple (if so, any recommendations for sourcing?)
3. make up…

Stainless steel fretwire for compound radius
Hey!
I have a friend who builds flat tops who wants to give stainless a try. I have done a handful of refrets and he was asking advice.
He is using a compound radius from 14” to 20”. Jeskar sells the coils and they come in 10”. I have only done installs where the wire matches the board precisely. I bought pre cut pre radius bags for these re frets.

Taylor 310 Top Crack, Finish Delaminating
So this 310 came into the shop and had a pretty gnarly crack that splinters some toward the lower left bout. Going to do a crack repair with the TJ Thompson crack corrector and some hide glue. The issue I’m inquiring about is the finish is delaminating around the area. I’m curious as to what type of finish it is. Seems a bit flexible and spongy…

Hey guys, a little help? I’m trying to recreate the old PRS wiring (rotary switch) but instead of the rotary, on a 5-way superswitch.
I managed to get almost everything but I can’t seem to figure out the series/parallel positions and it’s starting to hurt the brain. I’ve looked everywhere online but I can’t find exactly what I need.
Here’s the…

reality check - bridge repair - Epiphone PRO-1 Plus VS
I got this guitar for free hoping to further my skills and experience in guitar repair. I removed the bridge. its not in good shape and I don’t think I can glue it back together with any hope of it holding tension again. I haven’t been able to find a replacement that is of the same shape and dimensions. Epiphone/Gibson is no help. The top of…

How would you tackle this airline damage repair?
(Just to set expectations, I bought this for the sole purpose of learning. Not a client project)
I got this Martin D28-12 in destroyed condition, after an airline did something awful. As I see it:
– Top cracks
– Back cracks
– Top & side separation with some broken off kerfing
– Brace ejectedWhen I was looking at the pictures online pre-purchase,…

Modular Clamp For Acoustic Guitar Repair
So, I made a modular clamp based on the split clamp idea. Started on a prototype about two months ago and finished it. What I was aiming for was a clamp that I could use on the BOTTOM of acoustic guitars as well as tops to clamp cracks, cleats, braces, patches etc. Especially a clamp that would access small openings like “F” holes, small…

Hello. I am interested in the luthiers opinions about using Osmo oil as a finish on acoustic guitars? Advantages vs disadvantages. I am a new builder with small home workshop, mostly using hand tools to build my first acoustic guitar, an OM pre war style. Thank you all.

Before I hack into the Yamaha, I would like to get the opinion of the experts on a method of steaming the upper end of the guitar and ‘pressing’ the neck down to adjust the angle back to factory. There are several you-tubers that have tried and recommend it. My novice intuition is that even though it may work, wont the steaming of other…
