Tom Stelter Newbie started the discussion Gibson Model Identification in the forum General 2 months ago
My son in law texted me the following pic of a Gibson he once played and would like to find one for sale. I have searched the web to no avail, so I thought the collective here would have someone that recognizes the model. I was told it was an sj200 but I can’t find any sj200s that look like this instrument. Thanks in advance, Tom

Missing soundhole braces Gretsch 6021 Town & Country Rancher flattop
A customer recently brought in a 1950s Gretsch Town & Country Rancher 6021. In addition to two main ladder braces being loose/cracked, it’s missing the two braces on either side of the sound hole (see photo). Because this is such a wide instrument (17” lower bout), I’m thinking that installing those missing braces will help with the…

Seagull Acoustic Neck Tenon...
Hey everyone, I’m dealing with a Seagull acoustic guitar which has a neck design that I’m unfamiliar with. It has a bolt on heel but a seemingly glued in neck. The customer brought it in when his child knocked it off that stand and created a gap between the heel and the neck. It doesn’t appear that these pieces were glued together so I’m…

Hey everyone, I have a Vaccaro bass guitar and I’m getting a lot of open note buzz on it. In truth, the bass could stand a refret but that may or may not be in the cards. Additionally, the truss rod nut is stripped. I’m also wondering if this nut is designed to come out? I imagine it is but it’s kind of funky. A 1/4″ Allen wrench is still…

Hi Everyone,
I was given this guitar to harvest parts from and then throw into a fire due to a partial break in the neck.
When I pull the neck to close the break the action is perfect so I’d like to fix it and then donate it.
Can anyone show me what clamps to use to keep it closed after I glue it?
Also, would you recommend strait wood glue or…

Newbie question on 12 string action
I recently picked up a Sterling Atlas 12 string that is in excellent shape except for some bellying, which once I get into setting action, may determine if I need to add a ‘bridge doctor’ to remediate some of it.
However, I noticed that the saddle (adjustable but set to lowest point) has no curvature and there is not much down pressure on the…

Someone from the group asked if I’d make a video on how I modified a sound hole clamp by splitting it in half. Here’s the vid. Some were semi worried about injury do to DYI nature of the vid, so I put this disclaimer to you: Any contents in this video are not the responsibility of The Looth Group or any of its subsidiaries or the…

I am looking for new ideas on tools or methods for cleaning under partially loose braces to insure a good glue joint. In the past I’ve tried flossing with sandpaper, using the metal cutting edge from a wax paper box, maybe some extra thin files. In this job, one of the loose braces is up against the bridge plate, so it’s impossible to…

I’ve completed 89 vintage FG neck resets. https://yamahavintagefg.boards.net/ See the Repair section.
As others have noted, the joint is very tight, and they put glue in places it shouldn’t be, like gluing the face of the heel to the side of the guitar. I’ve done a few that were fairly easy, and a few that were brutally hard, but the rest…

Questions on Classical guitar action
I am working on a wall hanger that I thought would be fun to get working. It is an old Tokai. I have repaired a crack on left tuning arm. Also removed the bridge that had been badly glued on by previous owner. I am deciding if I want to put the effort into re-fretting it. I am new to Classical guitar actions, so my question is this – when…
