How to glue wood pick guard on shellac finish
I’m finishing up a dreadnought with a wood pickguard (ebonized mesquite) that I need to glue to a French polish finish. Wondering what glue to use and whether I need to scrape off the shellac or just glue it to the finish.
Thoughts??

I’m having trouble getting my mic to work with REW. I’m at the beginning of a new build and would like to measure the tonewood properties. I am trying to follow Giuliano’s instructions in his book. everything seems to be working but they don’t talk to each other. I think its a calibration or pc setting but I’m not very computer savvy and…

Hello everyone!
I’m having quite a lot of issues with a Jackson Warrior I’m refinishing in 2K Spraymax. After a week, it is still not completely cured and it dents whenever I do the “fingernail-test”. This is already the second time this happened.
My process is:
Sanded the body completely to bare wood, up to 320 grit.
Filled with Z-Poxy, let cure…

After installing purfling and bindings I noticed a black dot on one of the maple lines— and right at the florentine point! It’s not sanding out. Bummer. As I get close to finish prep does anyone have recommendations on acrylic touch up paint SKUs that work well with maple? These maple purflings happen to be from Gurian Instruments, for what…

Compulsory Arts started the discussion Blade Humbucker Assembly in the forum Amps, Pickups, and Pedals 8 months ago
Hi everyone.
I’ve built a bunch of pickups, in a variety of configurations, but I haven’t built a set of blade humbuckers yet. I usually make my own bobbins/flatwork, but since this is my first set of blades, I went ahead and purchased some bobbins to see what they’re all about. Which leads me to my question: how does the bobbin retain the…

A friend of mine put in my head the crazy idea of building a mandocello. There used to be a building plan available at https://www.hovingtoninstruments.com/ …. but the website seems to be down and it has been for weeks. I am trying to contact Tom Hovington on his FB and Instagram, but does anyone have other sources for building plans of…

Hello All. I’m new to the group and a beginner in terms of building (only built a couple so far). I was hoping I might gain some insight on the effect bridge type has on tone on a solid body guitar. I have been building guitars with hardtails but I’m curious about wraparounds. Of course, with hardtails the whole device is screwed to the top…
