3D printing and CNC are two areas that I am interested in as a way to facilitate acoustic building.
Two questions:
1) For those of you that have both capabilities in your shops, which do you find more useful or more often used on a regular basis?
2) How did you choose a cnc machine? Given the high cost and huge number of products in the…

Archtop f-hole placement: how precise?
I was finally able to model something like a Gibson L7 top plate! Now I’m trying to build my f-holes…
My only reference is the Benedetto archtop book, where it puts a few rules of thumb about how the f-holes should be placed. My question is, how precise are we talking here?
One of the rules of thumb is that the bridge intersects at the…

What kind of pore filler do you use?
I usually use aqua coat, shellac/pumice or stewmac water based mahogany grain filler. Interested in other methods, including zpoxy.

James Huntley started the discussion Low spots on sides in the forum Acoustic Builds 10 months ago
Im going to be starting my 6th acoustic build soon. One issue I continue to have is low spots on the sides. I use an LMI bender with the spring steel slats that LMI provided (they are pretty stout).
One observation, sometimes there is a bit of rebound in the sides as I take them out of the bender. I sort of force them into the mold to glue…

Cutting Clear Plastic Pickguard – Looking for Cleaner Results
I rarely use pickguards on my builds, as most of my guitars are intended for fingerstyle players. That said, I occasionally need to install one, and I’ve yet to find a cutting method that consistently meets my quality standards.
I’ve experimented with several techniques for cutting clear pickguard material, but the results are always somewhat…

Brazilian Rosewood sides thickness
I’m building my first BRW guitar, started with the back, pictured below.
What do you normally thickness BRW sides to? I guess they can probably be a bit under 2 mm, but I don’t want to overdo it in case there is some slight deformation that needs to be sanded later.
I bend manually on a heating iron if that makes any difference.

"Angle, center, elevation"...how to close this gap in the neck?
I wasn’t familiar with the loothalong, thanks! I *think* I have figured it out, first checking for mystery bumps/undercutting further and using sidewise flossing (we need better names for this!) on the purple tape side and base of the neck.
If I don’t get it in an hour or so, then I’ll jump into the loothalong. Thanks Ian and Pete for putting…
