Sparkle Burgundy Gibson Finish
Hi,
I’m wondering how to achieve this color on a guitar. It’s Sparkle Burgundy. I suspect the clear varnish has yellowed with age, which is why it has a coppery effect depending on the light. Can you recommend a varnish to achieve this effect? Should I use a UV lamp after varnishing to age the varnish?
Thanks in advance for your help.

if you use a regular jaguar pickup, remember to solder a ground wire in the claw like a tele neck 3 wire pickup

Hello, I am building a bass VI for a customer. As with a Fender Bass VI he wants a control plate with 4 slide switches. 1 on/off switch for each of the 3 pickups, but with the 4the switch he wants to control the phase of the middle pickup. Any suggestions as how I should wire that? thanks!

I switched from Nitro Cellulose Lacquer to Target Coating’s EM-6000 last build. It was essentially equivalent to nitro without the long cure times or toxicity. And finish-sanded dry before buffing.

Hello friends – I am a bass guitar builder who is considering building a neck-through Flying V-style guitar with a 25.5″ scale length and a Floyd Rose tremolo bridge. I have not built any neck-through instruments and would appreciate any guidance on where to begin with respect to laying out the design, in particular, getting the neck angle…

Build Sheet for acoustic builds?
I’d like to start doing a hard copy of notes on my guitars. Does anyone have a build record sheet that they could share? I have some ideas of what I want to put in it, but I’m open to suggestions.
Ultimately I’d like to photocopy a bunch of them and get them bound into a book for my benchtop.

Ok, I’m a new builder and I’ve only done solidbody electrics so far, so this question is related to only those. In my opinion, these are the things that have the most impact on tone, listed in order from most influential to least. Have at it!
Pickup/electronics, neck joint type, neck construction (including fret size/material), scale length,…

How to get a perfectly square neck alignment using the LMII/O'Brien jig
I attach my necks using the LMII/O’Brien jig. No matter the method, there is no guarantee that the neck block and edge of the rim at the top is truly perpendicular to the centerline of the guitar.<u5:p></u5:p>
I’ve just flossed when things weren’t quite right.<u5:p></u5:p>
But now I take a long square, place it on the rim at the neck block…

Using Deflection Measurement Frame on tonewood before building?
I will tag @giulianonicoletti for this question. I hope you are ok with that.
Is it of any use, to use the deflection measurement from for tonewood before building?
To determine the basic deflection/stiffness for the selection of the tonewood.

Cory Bedford Stringed Theory started the discussion Upper Bout Soundport in the forum Acoustic Builds 5 months ago
What support or bracing is common around a soundport that is placed on the upper bout at the edge of the instrument, where the lining or kerfing typically holds the guitar together?
I’ve been able to find info on direct top or side upper bout soundports, but I haven’t had much success when looking for the support structure once you’ve cut…
