Spaghetti
Posted by Anthony Kreher Kreher Guitars on December 5, 2024 at 1:33 pmI have been adoring my new P1S
But last week it started getting clogged or something. It would get a few mm up and then no more extrusion. On these prints I was using old off brand filament. I cleared the clog a few times and it kept happening. I bought some new Bambu filament and tried again today with the nozzle unclogged. And one print finished but doesn’t look so great on top. And the second print didn’t “clog” but it is spaghetti.
I’m coming from an Ender 3
So it seems like it’s not a simple nozzle swap. It’s the whole hot end and nozzle. Is that right? Is that the solution to this problem, or is there something more simple or obvious I should try first?

Hi. The first, and until now only, time my P1S made spaghetti was because some plastic-debris had polluted the Z-axis lead screws.
-
Wow, how is that possible? You mean one of the 3?
I will check that tomorrow. Can you describe what to look for?
I think it’s an extrusion thing with mine tho. The filament isn’t coming out right.
-
Yes, one of the filament “poops” was fallen to the bottom of one of the screws, and a tiny part of that filament had wound itself around the screw midways up. Dont know how, but it was easy to see, once I saw it

But it is possible it’s similar to your problem. Because this flat part printed ok. But then the taller parts spaghettied after a certain point

I cleared the nozzle l again today. Disconnected it. Heated it. Poped the filament out with a needle. And pushed the excess through with an Allen key.
This bench started great. Then went to shit pretty quick.

Is it failing at the same layer line every time?
What kind of filament ?
-
@ianhatesguitars it doesnt seem like it. I had the same thought. It’s just basic pla from Bambu labs.
-
Have you pulled the extruder apart to see if anything is gunking it up. also i’d try a different filament . Kinda looks like what wet stuff does, but an extreme example for pla .

No I haven’t tried anything with the extruder yet. Haven’t dove into that part of the machine yet. Uncharted waters. What should I look for?
This filament is fresh out of the package from Bambu. Impossible to be fucked up
-
It’s pretty easy to take apart. I’d look for stuff either clogging the gear, or stuff embedded in the metal part that pushes the filament. That can make it skip pushes.

Just took the entire thing apart. Pretty damn clean in there. Have the extruder teeth a clean with a wire brush just to be sure. All put back together. Gonna try another benchy. Please submit new suggestions now.

Nope Just basic black PLA from Bambu

Here I made it half way through and it failed even quicker.
This is so frustrating. I thought I was through with this tinkering crap. Or at least I could go 6 months before anything.
Well the extruder is all spick and span. All I can guess is to try a new hot end?
What else can I look at?
-
Do you have another roll of filament to try ? I’d try that and run the calibration. Also, what are your slicer settings ? Anything beyond stock ?
-
This IS the trying another roll. Third roll trying.
Just using bambu slicer. And for this benchy i am printing it from the stock filer on the sd card. What is the calibration?

Thanks @ianhatesguitars . this is really helpful. I will try some of this and see what happen s. and i will contact the company. very annoying

I would also reach out to bambu. I’ve had descent luck with their customer service.

Bambu said to swap there hot end. Luckly i had one from when i bought it. It seemed to do the trick. Pretty pissed off my month and a half old printer needed a hot end swap.

I know you tried different filament but it looks like damp filament to me. Have you tried drying it or taking a roll right out of the bag?
