MagFitt Vacuum System from Woodcraft
Like many of us, I work in a small space – a quarter basement with maybe 6 -1/2 feet of headroom. Sawdust is a problem. There’s no room for an extensive ductwork system or a blower setup. My shop tools (bandsaw, drill press, vertical belt sander, etc.) have a 1-1/2 inch connection for vacuum, but I have mostly been too lazy to use them. (note that I finally added a portable shop air cleaner with HEPA filters).
When the most recent Woodcraft flyer came in the mail and there was a sale on these MagFitt gadgets, so I finally decided to outfit the shop. The system comes in two sizes: 2-1/2 inch, which is the size of a ShopVac hose and 4 inch (if you have a ductwork system). It may be obvious, but I only have room for a ShopVac.
Since it’s easy to switch the hose from machine to machine, I automatically use it. It’s not quite plug and play – you’ll need a lot of duct tape. The cost is reasonable, but still, you’ll be out a bit north of a hundred bucks for four fixtures, vacuum hose and adaptors) for all of your machines. (Vacuum hose is remarkably expensive) But I’m pretty happy with it and I thought I’d pass it along. Note that choosing the proper attachments is not really intuitive. It helped to see the components live and in person.
I have added a short 1-1/2 inch extender hose from the tool to the MagFitt coupling on most of my machines in the basement. Then, the magnetized flange connects through a 2-1/2 inch hose to my ShopVac.
