I was able to get this one out using two Foam cutters and a little extra external heating of the heel with a heat gun on the low setting. Drilled at 15th fret as usual and got lucky, the holes intersected and scorched the dowels. I still had to wrestle it for about an hour…
Converting to bolt-on is fun because the dowel holes will make aligning things easier. Once the dowels are removed, I’ll just use two of the holes to refasten with threaded inserts and bolts. Hope this can help somebody out there!

I’ve done several Red Label and Brown Label, found dowels in one Epiphone made overseas. But these old Yamaha’s can sound amazing, so we need to know what to expect with resets over the different eras of production. Thanks again, this will help all of us someday!

Thanks for the kind words guys! I installed the threaded inserts in the heel, then removed them . I soaked the wood of the hole in the heel with CA , then reinstalled the inserts and wicked more CA between the wood and the outer portion of the insert until it was saturated.(Highly recommend doing those extra steps, that end grain can be crumbly on its own, I seen that tip on Frank Ford’s and Ted Woodford’s website) Tweaked the angle and reassembled everything. I’m happy with the results!
