Greetings y’all. A customer brought in a sitar to the shop recently. It had loose frets, missing frets, no strings, missing tuning beads, and the few frets remaining on the neck do not appear to be in proper placement.
Has anyone ever worked with one? Or repaired one? I’d be ever so grateful for any help or direction.
I know about retying frets when they come loose, and I can string and tune one. However starting from scratch is a different thing. The rule of 18ths does not apply from what I understand.
I can tell you also that the frets are each minutely different. The one after the nut is highest and the one closest to the bridge is lowest. But the lack of uniformity in shape resists measurement for comparison.
