Customer brought in his D35 which he bought new 6 months ago from a local shop in here in Toronto. The way he describes it— the finish on the back of the neck began to ripple, and in one spot bubbled and chipped off about the size of a quarter. Where the lacquer has chipped off, there’s still sealer and pore fill underneath. I’ve heard about finish adhesion issues on Martins of various eras. The rest of the neck finish is starting to ripple, looking like someone is playing the guitar with rings on every finger (which my customer assured me he isn’t).

He’s tried to get in touch with Martin through the local shop and was not happy with the experience and wants me to refinish the neck. I still think he should go back to Martin seeing as how this guitar is only about 6 months old.

Can anyone confirm my suspicion? Anyone have a recent experience like this on a newer Martin? Is this an adhesion issue between the top coats and sealer like I think it is?

Thanks to all in advance! 🙏
