One jack, two pickups, stereo & mono
I have a project on the bench where the player wants the option of sending the sound of each of his two pickups to separate amplifiers, or not, depending on the cycle of the moon. I have an idea that this could be accomplished using a DPDT switch and a stereo jack, wired as I’ve attempted to show on the attachment. In one position, both hot signals are sent to the tip, in the other, one goes to the tip, and the other to the ring. In the middle, the sound goes nowhere.
Tell me where I’m wrong.

I think the Billy Sheehan bass wiring has something like this but it’s with two jacks. I think there might be an option to run them both together on one jack or to run them separately on two jacks (which to me is superior than a stereo jack).

Yeah. That should work as described. Only thing to watch out for is, if you’re looking for the middle position to be off, you’ll need an ON/OFF/ON DPDT. Otherwise, the middle position will do something unplanned. 🙂
A regular 2-position switch would work if the middle off position isn’t needed.
