Mystery Buzz

    Hi Everyone,

    I hope you’re having a great weekend!

Can anyone help diagnose my mystery B string buzz?

I tried to attach a video but the site won’t take it.

I’ve tightened all hardware and the b string is not hitting any frets.

I’m giving it a set-up and when I had to lower the nut slot height of the B string it improved a bit.

When I capo at the first fret the buzz disappears so it seems to be something going on at the nut.

    Thanks in advance!

Do you have any Mitchel’s abrasive cord? They sell it at stew Mac. It’s like dental floss w abrasive. sometimes chasing the slots after adjusting them can clean it all up. You can also check your slotting files with calipers, I had some files that were well off their advertised size.

I actually do have that cord in all sizes.

Are you thinking that maybe widening the slot a bit will help?

Looking at the close-up of the nut it appears that the slot may be slightly wide, by just a few thousandths. This may lead to buzzing. If you place the string on top of the nut and tighten the string to a moderate tension will the buzz resolve?

B string is usually the culprit.

    Wasn’t raised right.

Looks to me like the top of the nut height needs to come down on both the B and E. Only half the string should sit inside the slot. Check the ramp on the back as well. Ideally, you want the string touching only at the break point, with a gap behind where it heads off towards the tuner.

Tried all of the suggestions and I still have the B string issue even after replacing the nut.

Is it possible that the saddle slot may need a hit with the abbrasive cord of a file?

    Thanks again!
