I really dont like doing to much repair work as it takes away from builds, but sometimes a friend will call who needs help so i’ll take on the job & when the job comes in sometimes i regret it like i did this time…

an older les paul came into the shop & when you turned down the tone on the bridge pickup, it would lose about 80 percent of the signal. almost like it was grounding out.

at first im like ok, prob something simple so i changed the tone pot, same thing. changed the cap, same thing… it had 50s wiring so i tried taking the cap & grounded it to the tone pot, same thing.

now im annoyed and i walked away from it….next day i swapped the pickups to oposite volume pots & to my surprise it was a bad pickup. wow….didnt see that coming not to mention now i need to put the orginal cap & pot back in & tell this guy he owes me labor & needs to go buy another pickup. lol

and this is why i dont like repair work… lol

Ha! Builders around here have been great resources for work. The shop’s new. Mark Blanchard, a builder of beautiful guitars, lives up the way, feels the same. Would repair for friends but just wants to build. And Ray the banjo builder’s the same. I guess I’m doing good enough work that they refer me…..
