I performed a fret replacement on a ’70’s Electra Les Paul, the notes on the G string at the 14th/15th fret have no clarity or sustain, same with the B string on the 13th fret. There is no interference from the frets themselves and is seems like a sympathetic vibration is cancelling out the notes. I have secured loose ground wires in the pickup cavity and put surgical tube in place of springs. I used fish glue to help secure the frets, is it possible they are not secure and robbing the sustain? Should I try wicking CA under the frets. Thanks all!

Securing the Frets may be the key. Not sure if CA on top of Fish Glue is going to connect them. One thing you can try to confirm this is tap on the fret. If you tap on an inoffensive fret and an offender, and there is a significant change in tone, it’s a safe bet you have a seating issue. Let me know how this goes.

I ran ultra thin CA under all of the frets on the bound neck, both sides; with the headstock raised, and with the body raised. It seemed to help a bit. I think a lot of the problem was a ghost in the machine, “you hear that? you hear that?” well, no, but let me try something else. In the end the customer walked away happy. Thanks for your help, Ian!
