My buddy wants me to install a Floyd in his MIJ Strat, but as I’m measuring and double checking to do the job, I ran into something I’m not sure how to tackle!

As seen in the photos, the truss rod nut is directly under the nut slot. Is it possible to maybe cut the truss rod nut short? I’m just not seeing any way to resolve this and I’m considering just suggesting that he get a replacement neck already cut for a Floyd Rose nut.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

I think new neck purpose built for a Floyd nut is a great idea.

It’s been some time since I worked on one of those, but I think the nut might be captured and what you’re seeing there is an outer sleeve. You might try taking it out and seeing if a shorter nut could be used.

I just watched a video on installing a nut on a similar guitar and it looks like it makes it a serious drag to adjust the rod even with a deeper nut.

I’m with Ian here, mostly because the amount of bench time I’d charge for that would approach an “economy” replacement neck like Mighty Mite etc.
I’ve done this job on similar necks without any massive problems, but there’s always something that needs extra attention or brainstorming.
