We had a Martin 1997 DM come in with all the binding falling off. Got that all glued back on and it needed some minor finish touchup down on the lower bout. This clouded like typical moisture blush does, but doesn’t behave like typical blush. We can’t sand it off, can’t buff it off, thinner and butyl cellosolve (blush remover) both cause it do dissipate while it’s wet, but as soon as it cures back out, the blush returns. Temperature in the spray room stays in the mid to upper 60s with humidity around 43-45%.

It occured to me that it could be the flattening agent in the finish precipitating out as it cures, but I have no idea how we would prevent that , and the blush area has expanded as we’ve messed with it.

Has anyone here run into something like this, or have any suggestions? (Following up with a photo)

Man, that sucks, sorry that’s happening to you.
I’ve never seen anything quite that crazy. Could be any number of things, but I don’t see any way to tackle this that doesn’t involve stripping and refining. Wait for a second opinion though.

Sometimes you just need to come to the conclusion that you’re screwed, and so free to get aggressive. Hard wet sanding with 800 grit and 10 minutes on the coarse buffing wheel. Blush is nearly gone and buddy is getting a glossy “upgrade”.
