Breedlove Roots D/SRH (basically an HD28V) on the bench with a non functional trussrod. Wrench will engage, but the nut just spins and no change in relief in either direction. Pretty sure the nut is stripped at the rod end, but due to the neck block design, there’s no way to access it without pulling the neck. Anybody ever replace a trussrod in one of these? The neck is a bolt on, and the fingerboard extension is glued down, so only moderate hassle to pull the neck (pretty sure they used epoxy for the extension), but I worry that the rod isn’t replaceable without pulling the fingerboard.

Fortunately, there isn’t serious backbow, and string tension pulls the neck pretty much dead straight with no relief. I can go up to 13s, and cut a taller saddle for it and should be playable (even as is the guitar sounds *fantastic* which is why we’re considering surgery), but any advice/intel on the trussrod construction would be greatly welcomed. Thanks

I think that’s a double action rod. There is a chance it could slide out once the neck is out. Whether or not you could find one that slides back in, is another story. I’m asking a peep who worked at Breedlove, but if you’re wonder about how to bid it, I would bid it for FB off just to cover the bases.

  • I’ve replaced many a truss rod on Taylor’s. Same neck bolt design with glued on fingerboard. Only difference is the adjustment is at the peg head. But they can be dug out at the heel and slid out. I think you have a good chance, just need to figure out what you’ll replace it with.
