Would love some advise on how to stabilize/repair this tortoiseoid binding on a 70’s J-45…

I’m thinking of wicking gluboost ultra thin into the cracks and then building up the missing areas with the thicker viscosity gluboost. Am I on the right track?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom you all might be willing to share…

For small areas you might be able to do it with GB. Tortoise is such a busy pattern that cutting it out and replacing it is often the faster move. If you go in for the idea that the rot is chemically spreading, it’s also the best move.

Thanks…I’ve been pondering the question of what caused it…The back bindings were way gone. Cracked and crazed and brittle. I was pulling the backplate on this one anyway, so I just trashed em. Came off in 1-2 cm chunks. The top only had a few places with that kind of damage. Made me wonder if it was a reaction to something that was in the case, where the back was in contact with that something for longer. I have no idea if it’s chemically spreading or not….how would one know?
