Hey Everyone- I have a Martin 000c-16 that is in bad need of a neck reset- Anyone have any experience with this particular model? It’s a mortise and tenon. Will I have more luck using steam or foam cutters? Anything to watch out for?

UPDATE-So I think i’m good now. I found a in-depth write up on this model M&T reset process in the new Martin Repair Guide – by Patrick DiBurro Great book BTW- Thanks!

Hey Ian- It is! It has the single bolt. I don’t think the bolt was or is failing though., I tried tightening it but nothing moved. It wasn’t loose. The heel does have a slight gap.. I suppose it could have got hot and moved a bit/crept.. I’ll probably just pull the neck &clean it all up. I’m gonna try the heat stick first over steam. I think it’s probably PVA? It’s US made. I guess the Mexican ones use CA sometimes..

I’ll message Pat if I have any issues but I was happy to have found some great instruction in his book, although he uses steam. I have my steamer ready to go if needed.. i’m kinda wondering if I should use titebond or hide glue during the reset. Thanks Ian.

I haven’t checked his book, but one thing I like to do is take that insert out, throw one in with a little more bite to the threads and put it in with epoxy. I also cap over the end of the tenon with hard wood and then drill a hole only big enough for the bolt to get trough into the insert. This will prevent the insert from pulling out and you can really snug that thing up.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice!I I guess the threaded insert could be failing. I’ll know tomorrow when I pull the neck off. I’ll update it here and can also post some pictures in the neck reset database. Thanks again!
