Hi all, just sharing a couple of shots of my latest build, an A5-style mandolin with a goth soul 😉
Tonewoods
Top: Alpine Spruce (Italy)
Back & sides: Flame maple (France)
Neck: Birch (Sweden)
Fretboard & bridge: African Ebony
Dimensions
Scale length: 352.4 mm
Nut width: 30 mm
Fretboard radius: flat

Hand-rubbed stains and acrylic satin finish

Really liking the dark stain. Which stain did you use ?

Thanks, Ian! I used Colortone Liquid Stains. To achieve a warmer tone of black, I mixed black with a little bit of medium brown.

It’s steel. Hammered and then relic’ed with burnishing fluid.

Thank you for the nice comment, Dave! It does sound pretty sweet. I am not a mandolin player myself, but I brought it to a guitar show where I was exhibiting, here in Sweden, and the feedback I got from a number of professional players was positive. They liked its tone, and also found it to be more responsive and have more headroom than what they expected, so I’m happy.
