    Hey guys,

Trying my first bound headstocks and need some advice on how to approach it once I get to my nut area. I usually shape the headstock with a template and leave about 1/8” before the nut untouched so don’t roll the shape I to the nut slot area(aka a bad time). How do you all approach this process and specifically the nut slot area. I’ve attached some photos so you can see what I mean. Veneer on headstock is about 2mm. Neck is lightly tapered and not shaped or thicknessed at this point, just left a hunk around the nut for the dart, which maybe there’s a better way of doing I just haven’t figured out with my stew Mac safety planet yet…

Hey. Not sure if you are familiar with Tom Bills. He’s a builder who has an online learning resource called Luthier’s Edge. I’m not shilling for him, but has an online course specifically on binding the headstock. His courses are very detailed and he is very willing to help people with specific issues. I don’t know what the monthly cost would be to get access to the course. But I can say that his courses are the most detailed of any I’ve seen online. But it does cost money.

It does look like a good course, but a pretty penny. $30 a month billed every 6 months(179$) or 25$ a month billed annually(299$)

I’ll search for other knowledge sources, and may end up doing this.

It is completely ok to shill up to the point that it becomes spam. A little bit of letting people know about resources is totally ok.
