connect REW with Umik 1 mic

I’m having trouble getting my mic to work with REW. I’m at the beginning of a new build and would like to measure the tonewood properties. I am trying to follow Giuliano’s instructions in his book. everything seems to be working but they don’t talk to each other. I think its a calibration or pc setting but I’m not very computer savvy and what seems to go without saying needs to be said to me in step by step, very simple language. I think I’ll be ok once the proper introductions are made. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you

If you are running Windows, have you looked in settings/system/sound to see if your Umik mic is recognized as an input device? If it isn’t there when plugged in, you can try “add device” to see if Windows recognizes it. Once Windows sees your microphone, you can go into system/sound/all sound devices/properties, select it, and then set parameters and test the mic.

Try that, if it doesn’t work, we can go to step 2.

Thanks Michael. My mic is recognized. When I went to Device Properties I turned the setting up to 96 and did their test showing 48%. I haven’t gone any further. I have to apologize, something has come up here and I doubt that I will be able to work on this any longer tonight. If you have any more advice I will get back to it first thing in the morning. Thank you for helping

I suggest moving the slider on the Windows settings input level to 100%, not exactly sure about the UMIK but most USB mics use unity gain.

Then go into the REW software under the “Preferences” drop down, and make sure your input device is selected as your UMIK-1. Then go back the main REW menu and select SPL meter. Say something into the mic and see what sort of levels you get.

OK, thanks. I did what you said and i definitely have a connection to my mic into REW. I went to the RTA tab and am getting a reading on the graph but I don’t know what I’m reading yet. I will study on it but as far as the mic connection goes, I think its good. Thanks again for all you help
