Woodseses
Howdy folks,
Y’all may know that over the years I’ve had my hands in all sorts of varying degrees of our beloved lutherie bizz; from my current modest restoration shop focus to work for ‘The Man’ in big production. Throughout this I’ve built up contacts of various sorts and recently, as I’ve started to get back into building (to some degree) I’ve had some of these contact ask me about moving some wood on their behalf. So, here I am wondering if my brothers and sisters in lutherie may be on the lookout for some woods?
For my Canadian brethren:
– I have some 4/4 eastern hard maple with varying degrees of Birdseye figure and varying widths. These are a strong 4/4 and if carefully cleaned up should be fine for those looking for 1″ thick boards for a solid 1-piece neck/fingerboard combo. I’ve been in contact with TK Smith about some heading his way and my pal Chris that builds the Washburn US made Nuno models as they are all built with birdseye necks. Talk to me if you’re looking for some Birdseye!
– I also have some 4/4 eastern hard maple with varying degrees of curly/tiger stripe/fiddleback figure and varying widths. Like the Birdseye, these are a strong 4/4 and if carefully cleaned up should be fine for those looking for 1″ thick boards for a solid 1-piece neck/fingerboard combo or drop-tops. <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>Talk to me if you’re looking for some Figured maple!
<b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”> – I also have the opportunity to bring in some Swietenia Macrophylla (Fijian Mahogany) in 6/4, 8/4, 10/4 and 12/4 billets. I am told this is the same material and source currently used by Gibson and Taylor for their instruments. This may be time sensitive so, hit me up if you’re for some Mahogany!
For my American brethren:
This isn’t exclusive to my fellow Canadians, just easier to work out shipping. That said, none of the aforementioned woods are subject to any CITES regulations so, if you’re looking, hit me up and I’ll see what I can get your way. The mapleseses I have, the mahogany will need to get to me first but it’s expected presently.
For all my other lutherie brethren:
If I can figure out a way to get wood to you that isn’t excessively complicated, I’m happy to help out.
The plan is to be aggressive with pricing. Way under the numbers I see quoted online from some of the big lutherie specialty shops. I’ll also be trying to catalog with pictures and get this stuff up on the Northern Nikawa website but baby-steps first. So hit me up if you need some woods loothers.
