  • Vacuum holders are a great option.

  • So my second cup of coffee is kicking in, here’s a long reply!

Piggy backing on what Ian said, it is ALL about a solid Google business profile with a plethora of reviews. It’s the only marketing I rely on and I’ve built my shop from the ground up with it. It falls under herd mentality and review culture; when people see a bunch of positive experiences their trust is almost instantaneous. “Guitar repair near me”, “luthier near me”, “Guitar repair Everett”.. All of these organic searches will lead to the most interacted-with and relevant business profile. To start, reach out to past clients about leaving you a review. Additionally, generate a QR code with a direct link to leave you a review, print it out, frame it, and post it up somewhere in the shop easily seen as clients head for the door. (I always point it out to clients with an “Oh, by the way..”)

Thanks to OpenAI, here’s a quick email template to send to your past/current clients! Also, depending on when the client was in last this might drum up some fresh business and get some “I’ve been meaning to reach out” replies. You could add in an ask about any new gear, how the instrument you last worked on is playing, etc. to initiate a reply.

Currently using NinjaForms, Calendly, ClickUp (avoid, it’s a pain), and Square.

In a past sales role for a company offering complete “done for you” websites, I implemented the use of PipeDrive CRM and remember it being very fluid to keep rack of leads, clients, and where they sat in the customer path. The dev team used Basecamp to manage the projects and it played nice with PipeDrive.

Similar to Trello, you can move the client/work order through your funnel from “initial contact” to “completed”. It offers an invoice solution, and you can use Zapier to connect to other software.

I’d be interested in seeing your Trello card template for repairs! I always loved the simplicity of Trello, and I’m looking for any reason to move away from ClickUp; there’s just too much going on with it.

    Have a link?

  • I have some cheap carpet lining my entire bench which I can replace easily, and directly next to my bench is a Dyson V10 cordless vacuum which makes quick work of all debris. I like it because I have a few jigs with velcro on the bottom and they just stay where you put them, no clamps required.

  • This seems like the thread to share Frank Ford’s Interactive Buzz Diagnosis tool.

I downloaded it the other day after watching 3D Club, but haven’t spent any time in it outside of the initial load up. I’m going to play around a bit this weekend!

Yeah! I’m sick of stacking spacer blocks under a template whenever I have to rout for a p90. Figured I have the scanner and printer, so why not?

    I’m just rusty with CAD.

  • No problem at all! That’s what this group is here for. Reading the other comments, it’s pretty awesome to hear what’s worked for others and what hasn’t.

Side note, If you haven’t joined one of Al’s Emotional Grounding for Looths, I highly recommend it! You can internalize a lot as a business owner and having to wear all of the hats will drive you mad sometimes; Al has some tips to prevent/manage that.

  • I’m all about it! I’ll shoot you a message.

  • I know!! I’m going to do my best to actually get some work done today and NOT play with the scanner. 😂

  • Current pricing is $359 for the standalone scanner. Here’s a link!

Oh, I’m going to do a deeper dive on Repairshopr! I recall looking at an “all in one” solution a while back called ShopFlow but couldn’t get past the $45 a month pricing.

  • Yeah, this is definitely the last time. I do my best to repeat the words “Learning experience” every time something like this happens! Next time, I’ll abide better by the law of proper planning prevents piss poor performance. 😆

  • Thanks so much for the tips!

Good call on the hot water; makes a lot of sense.
