You’ve got the right idea. I worked on a hofner, I had to refret the saddle with taller fretwire, then slotted the saddle frets. The low E was buzzing on the front of the saddle because the fret was so low in my case.

With the slots deep enough and at least 4 or 5 degrees brake angle behind the bridge, your customer should be happy. 😀
