MemberDecember 24, 2024 at 4:36 am in reply to: D String Intonation Point offI’m curious about that too, I often have intonation issues with bass strings although never that bad ! Does it go out of tune gradually on all the frets ?
I learned a very cool trick to set up basses from Evan Gluck’s Stewmac video : before installing the strings, set the saddles closer to the bridge than they need to be, in order to avoid any intonation issue down the line.

MemberOctober 21, 2024 at 3:00 am in reply to: Headstock repairHey guys ! Sorry I didn’t see you answers earlier ! From the other side you can’t see anything, the break is after the nut, and from now there is no piece of wood grafted. The mess you see is just 1/ the headstock part with smashed end fibers 2/ the neck part where fibers have been cut to make space for the repair and align everything properly 3/ a lot of epoxy.

MemberSeptember 1, 2024 at 3:58 am in reply to: Danelectro wiringI was getting crazy a few years ago when I was trying to figure out the diagram, because the switch is made differently than a classic toggle and includes a series position (nothing selected in the middle rather than everything selected with a classic toggle switch). Attached is a diagram that seems to work if I get it right ! Just the labelled “neck” and “bridge” positions on the switch are reversed if you pull the switch in the direction they are written to.

MemberMarch 13, 2024 at 3:21 pm in reply to: Headstock repair : adequate method? Thanks Al ! I’m not experienced at all in terms of refinish (of even just finish), so I’m a bit afraid of the amount of work being the mesh wrap (though I’ll definitely try that on a personal project in the future). I’ll check with Ian then, I’m not sure the epoxy reglue by itself will be enough for the string pull…

MemberFebruary 21, 2024 at 4:58 pm in reply to: Truss rod replace on a 5string Fender jazz bassHey ! I’m currently deep into the process of removing a trussrod from the skunk stripe and I’d preferably do it your way in the future (less invasive, and (I’d say) no risks if the canal is clean ? If it has been routed properly and you dont have any sorts of residues in the way it sounds OK to me, but I guess you have to trust the factory ahah). I’ve seen it done but don’t have first hand experience though ! What suggests Dan Erlewine is a great set of tools that are very useful, and in my opinion (and my limited experience), the best way to go (first) if you just have worn threads.

MemberJanuary 12, 2024 at 5:24 pm in reply to: Driving people into a new shopI launched my business last year and started to rent a small space in september. I’m using Google Analytics to track my progress and time seems to helps, along with reviews. I think Google Analytics is interesting because it shows which terms show your website the most. I’m currently offering a 50€ gift card to one customer, drawn among all reviews of my first 6 month, and it helps harvesting these pesky reviews everyone needs ! My first customers have been people I already knew, but also people that trusted quickly what I had to offer (having a Instagram with nice pictures of instruments and processes seemed to help in my case). Now I’m trying to convince the guitarists that really care about their instruments 😉

A soldering class could definitly be nice, since pickup swapping is the thing I started tinkering with when I started to play.
Basic setup would be the main attraction but I’ll have to figure out how to include nut action. I’m hesitant to let people use these agressive files I have and ask me to cut them a new bone nut afterwards ahah

MemberMay 3, 2024 at 5:34 pm in reply to: Gluboost surface level after polish on poly finishesThanks Dave ! I fear I was relying too much on a not agressive enough polish, I bought an agressive compound (Sonax Profiline Cutmax) and will use it with a block too. Thanks for including the references of your products !

MemberFebruary 3, 2024 at 4:16 am in reply to: Headstock break suggestions ?Yes it has ! On each side of the carbon fiber rod you can see two different breaks ! One has been glued and stayed glued (I don’t know what kind of glue though, I’ll try to figure it out), and the other one broke elsewhere.
