MemberApril 17, 2025 at 4:00 am in reply to: Autograph pen clear gloss top coat questionHey Al-I just had a similar job come into my shop. It’s an oil based pen similar to yours but made by craftsmart. The Signature is John 5 and it’s a Fender custom shop tele finished in nitro lacquer. How did the Mowhawk ultra bond workout for you? I’ve read the oil based pens contain acetone as a solvent so i’m hesitant to use coat of lacquer over the top. I’ll have to google the Ultra bond MSDS. Thanks in advance for any tips or advice. -Carl

MemberNovember 10, 2024 at 11:10 am in reply to: 2006 Martin 000C-16GTE Neck Reset Question- M&THey Ian- It is! It has the single bolt. I don’t think the bolt was or is failing though., I tried tightening it but nothing moved. It wasn’t loose. The heel does have a slight gap.. I suppose it could have got hot and moved a bit/crept.. I’ll probably just pull the neck &clean it all up. I’m gonna try the heat stick first over steam. I think it’s probably PVA? It’s US made. I guess the Mexican ones use CA sometimes..
I’ll message Pat if I have any issues but I was happy to have found some great instruction in his book, although he uses steam. I have my steamer ready to go if needed.. i’m kinda wondering if I should use titebond or hide glue during the reset. Thanks Ian.
