MemberNovember 6, 2025 at 11:14 am in reply to: Local builder mandolin neck resetOkay, update time. Finally carved out some time to heat the neck off. Unfortunately it didn’t give me much evidence as to the cause of the neck releasing. At this point I’m suspicious that the neck block could’ve come loose perhaps, however I’ll admit at this juncture I’m beyond my expertise to diagnose. Amy ideas from you mandolin people would be awesome.

MemberOctober 14, 2025 at 12:08 pm in reply to: Epiphone LP Limited Edition severe fall damageYeah, honestly I’m at an impasse as to how to go about it. The customer seems okay with doing a refin if it fixes the damage. It’s not out of the question I suppose, but I was really hoping for a less tedious avenue. Been doing a lot of refinishes lately though, so perhaps I can add this to the lineup.

MemberSeptember 10, 2024 at 10:07 pm in reply to: ’70s Gibson Heritage bridge replacementThanks Ian and Spencer I really appreciate your input. My apologies for the delayed response.
I have looked at the bridge plate and it’s not in bad shape. It has some wear, but nothing that would warrant replacing it in my book. I proposed capping it with some maple to the customer and he said he would be open to it.
Spencer I might take you up on that. I’m still waiting to hear back on if he wants to move forward on it. I gave him a pretty substantial quote on it, and that was without any inlay work. His intention is to flip it for a profit, but he is pretty green to the vintage guitar market. Let me reach back out once I hear back from him. Thanks again for your help.

Does anybody have a link to the drill bit they’re using with the foam cutters? I know TWoodford uses an airplane but, but not sure where he got it from.

I spritzed a new D28 will lacquer thinner once by cleaning my tools near my work area. I would’ve given anything for this community back then, so yes please post pictures.

MemberAugust 14, 2023 at 3:03 pm in reply to: Tuners for 1952 Gibson LG-1Yeah I’m not too worried about keeping it “authentic”. It’s a new addition to the family, so I’m more concerned with compatibility and aesthetic. Also not breaking the bank would be nice, so anything around the $80-$125 dollar range would be great.

MemberNovember 6, 2025 at 5:58 pm in reply to: Local builder mandolin neck resetI have not. It’s a fairly expensive instrument in cost, but not necessarily in quality. Local builder who has since passed away. It belongs to a friend of mine, and he was pretty adamant about having me do the work.
I was thinking to drilling a couple holes for my foam cutters to see if I can break it loose. My biggest fear at this point is dealing with a bad neck block.

MemberNovember 6, 2025 at 11:20 am in reply to: Epiphone LP Limited Edition severe fall damageAt this point I’m thinking of doing a complete refinish of the back. Probably build up the finish with some Gluboost, level it and go from there. I might try to do some color matching with the gluboost powders to try and get it close then do a couple over coats of color or clear to blend and hide. @ianhatesguitars and @guitarspecialistinc y’all have any suggestions on this catastrophe?

MemberJuly 1, 2025 at 8:57 pm in reply to: 60’s LG0 bare wood touch upThat’s good to hear. It was scraped off with a razor knife. What kind of defusing agent would you use? I guess this means I’m going to have to invest in a spray gun rig. Was going to happen at some point anyway.
