I'm working on Collaborative Design Software for Luthiers
Hi everyone, hope you guys had a great weekend. I just joined the Looth Group and have been looking around a bit. I have kind of an unique thing to share here in my first post. Hope it’s according to the community guidelines.
So I’m Nathan – Industrial designer, software engineer and guitar enthusiast here. I love seeing such a passionate community creating such unique and inspiring designs, and for some time now I’ve been obsessing over a startup idea where I think the profession is deserving for more specialized business software.
I’ve read many stories about professionals and aspiring builders that share how difficult it is to get a sustainable income from commission-based projects. This is such a shame because there no way a mass-produced instrument from the big manufactures can beat something a talented craftsman has been working on. Don’t even mentioned the stunning inlay-works and attention to details you guys bring forward.
I’m building a platform where through luthier and client collaborations I want to address these pain points. A dedication on starting a project from a customer perspective is a huge commitment. How do I bring my vision across? how much is it going to costs? Will it meet my expectations? Let’s say you could present your offerings in 3D and together with your client you could consult them in real-time on what suits to their playing style, preferred sound characteristics, or even aesthetics. Together you could mock and render out ideas, attach photo’s and explore the ideal vision of the project. Such an interactive experience makes this process much more engaging while also removing uncertainties such as miscommunications. Additionally it could be a differentiator from the bigger brands out there, therefore upselling your product in a higher luxury segment.
I have so many ideas to share with you and already built a prototype. Check it out here: inlays.io
I just launched recently, what do you think? Would you like using such a platform? What should we focus on to make this truly valuable for you? Please note it’s still in a very early stage and I’m testing product-market-fit to evaluate if there is enough interest from the community. I’m also looking for professionals to partner up with so if you’re interested I would love to connect. Also would love to be involved in this group. Please leave any thoughts below or feel free to send me a personal message.
Thanks a lot for reading,
Nathan
