However, I would reach out to the folks at LR Baggs for (1) to ask for their advice and (2) make sure they know what products it DOESN’T work with! Best of luck, Chris

In my experience, and from painful matching lessons, a full back and side refin (up to the neck joint and the bindings) has been the only way to address this damage in a way that I was happy with it leaving my shop.

For ebony streaks, use black fingerboard stain - StewMac
Erick Coleman shows why black fingerboard stain is a standard item in any guitarmaker's shop, including the big name builders.

btw – very nice work on this patch – looking great!

MemberAugust 18, 2025 at 10:17 am in reply to: Maple Fingerboard Refinishing/RefrettingI use a set of three small blocks (similar in size to the tolex flat toleblock) that have a matching radius to the fingerboard on one edge and then attached a small piece of 3M Stikit sandpaper.
Each block is a different size to accommodate the decreasing space between frets. If you don’t feel comfortable making these blocks by hand, grab a 4″ radius block and cut into sections for your scale length.
Hope this helps.
