Does anyone else here enjoy customizing low-cost guitars as much as I do? Amazon Squier Debut Strat with custom-made pickguard to add mini-humbuckers.

I dig it! I actually made two videos for my YouTube channel covering this guitar when I first got it and the mods I’ve done to it since:
https://youtu.be/RbWgFjFPNDgI’m planning on replacing all the pickups including the Duncan I put in it. My right hand tends to press down on the strings causing them to hit the polepieces/blades and causes a ‘thunk’ which is rather unpleasant while recording.

@davidrossmusicalinstruments I tend to feel less intimidated working on a budget instrument. Makes for good practice before I move on to the more expensive instruments. My most recent mod was on a Fojill bass from Amazon, I think it cost $130 + $25 for a pickup and $5 for the rotary switch. But refining the process is priceless before moving up the value scale.

I totally agree! I put a “Flag” on an inexpensive short-scall bass for my son when he was first learning bass and guitar – this little thing sounds amazing, believe it or not! 🙂
Oh, and yes, I only paid $99 for it!

@domdebellis I can believe it sounds good, even as a short scale. My 25.5 inch Telecaster-style bass has some awesome tone with 50-110 gauge strings. Plus it is easier to play than my 35 inch with lighter strings.
