It’s to the point where they kinda slide in and I’m using CA glue to get them all the way there. Hammering them in just doesn’t appear to be an option. All using Stewmac wire which I prefer.
I’ve tried the Dunlop wire from Allparts and while I love them for so much stuff but not the fret wire. The tangs are so shallow it doesn’t allow for much room for error.

MemberJuly 8, 2024 at 7:06 pm in reply to: 1958 Gretsch Country Gent headstock re-repairThank you and super encouraging. How did you take apart the previous repair? Steam it off? And did you go with hide glue or epoxy or something else?

MemberSeptember 17, 2024 at 3:01 pm in reply to: Quikwood and Titebond? This headstock break was previously sanded and uneven. My guess is whoever did this previously did not use a sanding block. As a result, the left side (as you look down from the top of the headstock) has a dip in it from just after where the nut would sit that extends about 2.5″ up towards the tip of the headstock until it levels out again. My thought was to put some Quikwood in there as it would easily adapt to those odd contours and could be sanded back quickly to level. From there I would then slap a new veneer on w/ Titebond and cover up all that ugly stuff.
