Hey everyone, I had a question on guitar building and overcoming something of a mental hurdle that I have. Quite awhile back I had access to a CNC machine and routed some Stratocaster bodies which you can see in the pictures. I was mostly pleased with how these turned out, but there are a couple of issues. On the cherry bodied guitar, the seam…

Seagull Acoustic Neck Tenon...
Hey everyone, I’m dealing with a Seagull acoustic guitar which has a neck design that I’m unfamiliar with. It has a bolt on heel but a seemingly glued in neck. The customer brought it in when his child knocked it off that stand and created a gap between the heel and the neck. It doesn’t appear that these pieces were glued together so I’m…

Hey everyone, I have a Vaccaro bass guitar and I’m getting a lot of open note buzz on it. In truth, the bass could stand a refret but that may or may not be in the cards. Additionally, the truss rod nut is stripped. I’m also wondering if this nut is designed to come out? I imagine it is but it’s kind of funky. A 1/4″ Allen wrench is still…

Hey everyone,
Recently I’ve been struggling to determine how much to charge the customer in regards to parts for a repair. The best example of this I can give would be guitar strings. Occasionally I’ll buy strings on sale, other times when they’re not on sale, and since cost of strings often varies, I may buy strings at the start of the year,…

3-Pickup Toggle Switch?
I have a customer who has a guitar with a PRS SE with an HSH pickup setup, it has a volume, a tone and a 3 way toggle switch. He wants the switch to isolate each individual pickup. So in the back position it’s just the bridge humbucker, in the middle position it’s just the single coil, and in the up position it’s just the neck humbucker.…

Although I don’t see how an open frame toggle can do it, I have been able to map out how a closed DPDT on-on-on switch would do the trick if the internal contact movement is the same as switches I used 20+ years ago. (I just looked one up on Amazon that uses the same internal switching.)

Hey all,
I have a Guild JF30 in my shop that needs some sizeable touchups. The goal is to get this looking better, not necessarily perfect. I’m not particularly good at refinish work and this guitar has some rather sizeable dings. Any general suggestions on getting this to look better? There are four major locations that I’m concerned with.…

Adding a resistor to a pickups hot lead?
I have a customer with a PRS Semi Hollow Special 22, it features two Duncan humbuckers in the bridge and the neck, and also a Narrowfield pickup in the middle. He wants to drop the volume pot down from 500k to 250k to have the humbuckers a bit darker overall. The issue that he has with this is the middle pickup is already quite dark, and how…

National Triolian - Fishman Resophonic/Lipstick pickup rewiring
Hey everyone. I’m trying to figure out a wiring scheme for a modded National Triolian resonator guitar. It has a Fishman Resophonic end pin jack pickup (link to that is below) as well as a lipstick pickup that was installed along with a three way switch, and two potentiometers.
Essentially what I’d like to do is wire it so there is one volume…
