What kind of glue do you think they used?
This top crack had been glued (not by me), and is now open, puckered, and the glue residue is very dark (almost black). Internally, there are 2 very neat cleats. What glue do you think they used? A possible clue: there is a smear of something on the finish by the sound hole that looks like it could be epoxy.

Any clues on what the cleats were glued in with?

I did a quick search and AI told me that Titebond III is noted for its propensity to turn dark over time (“nearly black, especially noticeable on lighter woods”). Did not know that, though it may be AI hallucination.

Broken Scroll on Mandolin Head
The previously glued scroll on a mandolin headstock has broken off again.
I’ve seen Frank Ford’s fix, where he routs and glues in a spline, but I am wondering if there is a simpler fix for a less expensive instrument.
Thanks.

Replacing Nylon Saddles on a Gibson SB-400 bass
I need some advice on replacing some saddles.
I have been restoring a “dumpster dive” 1972 Gibson SB-400 bass, with a Multiplex bridge. It has nylon saddles, one of which has a crack. The screws upon which the saddles ride are not removable, as the end has an enlarged cap (see picture).
How do I replace the saddles without destroying the…

I recently took the neck off a 1972 Gibson SB-400 Bass.
The tenon is 1″ X 3 1/8″. Foam cutters were used.

How do you attach a floating pickup with no brackets to a pickguard?
This may be a stupid question. A client has a Bartolini jazz guitar humbucker with no brackets, 5JNB:

They want to attach it to an ebony jazz guitar pickguard.
How do you do that? My thought was to make a metal tray, bend it to the appropriate shape, screw it to the pickguard, and attach the pickup to the tray…

Too many knobs, too little time
I think you are probably right about the piezo bridge. I just thought it was a bridge design I was unfamiliar with. The current owner said that he’d been told something about it being made so that it could sound “more acoustic”, so that adds up. Thank you!
And I did replace the 9 volt battery.
Cheers,
Elaine

Too many knobs, too little time
Thanks so much for your input, much appreciated. The guitar has gone back to it’s owner, who has promised to confer with an electric guitar guru. If they figure it out, I’ll let you know.
Cheers,

Thank you very much, that is helpful. I did do the pickup tap test to determine the four way switch settings. As for the listening test, maybe my amp (or my ears) aren’t good enough to figure out what the difference is when using the mystery pot. I thought for a bit that it might be adding reverb, but maybe that was just my head vibrating.
Cheers,
Elaine
