AdministratorFebruary 25, 2025 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Getting perfectly flat without a jointerThat is a really tall order for a planer probably. If a power jointer isn’t in the cards, with some work, a jointer plane can actually be used to great effect on a project like this. There is some learning to do though.

AdministratorFebruary 23, 2025 at 1:58 pm in reply to: Bigsby B60 vs B70That B70 appears to have the roller out in front to keep the strings down. If it’s in the financial cards, I’d think that could work. The question is whether the extra length is going to be weird.

Also make sure to abrade everything.

AdministratorFebruary 15, 2025 at 3:52 pm in reply to: Sharpening SystemIm using the DMT 1200 and Extra Fine, plus an 8000 grit shapton stone which is pretty crazy. Probably the biggest change to my game was getting the DMT lapping plate, which seem like a crazy investment, but having the shapton actually flat has made a huge difference.
I also picked up a $30 guide off of amazon cuz my hands are old and dumb now, but I used to free hand everything and could still liberate hairs from my forearm.

If so, there is a small chance you can pull the rod out through the adjustment pocket and replace. If not, there may be nothing for it but to pull the board to replace.

AdministratorFebruary 12, 2025 at 5:34 am in reply to: Help Needed: Scewed bridge to top on classical guitar and holes on the top.Is this an expensive guitar ? If not, you might just go with screws again, but do a nicer job. You could use machine screws and fit the blocks better and use washers and lock nuts. Do you have the bridge all the way off yet ?

AdministratorFebruary 24, 2025 at 5:22 am in reply to: Workshop Starting Kit & OrganizationI’d say that in a space that size, making your power tools easy to store to maximize bench top space is going to be important.
As far as dust collection goes, I would really recommend something small that attaches very close to each machine. Running duct requires a larger machine taking up more space and reduces stowability of the other machines etc.
Just, in generally, building guitars requires a lot of benchtop real estate, I’d get used to being able to maximize it by utilizing wall hanging space and really well planned drawers.
If you are going to use a go bar deck, I have a design on here for a very collapsable version.

Do you have any links to the contenders ? One thing you can do is get what is available and run some tests. Could you get any of the West systems filler since it’s not a liquid ?

AdministratorFebruary 9, 2025 at 7:26 am in reply to: Over-planed neck blank — too thin?It depends on how your truss rod is going in. You don’t want it to be that much closer to coming through the back of the neck. If that’s an issue, lam to the neck before you cut for it.
