I think you’re off to a good start gluing the chips in as it is less color you have to add. I would do the following
- Get some fill n finish
- fill the area and level it.
- Sand a little dish into it to accept new color and lacquer.
- Airbrush in some black to cover the cracks.
- Top coat with matte lacquer. I use the stuff from mohawk.

Here is a quick post relating to a possible layout for the shop. I’m already struggling to visualise it and figure out where the hell I will put the little spray area.
the Guitar rack will be going on the back wall in what will be the customer area as this wall is internal and insulated, Carpet will go down in the customer area to.
most the timber for the wall and the rack I have managed to procure for free which is a winner.
Internet has been booked in for next week
Cameras for a bit of security are on their way to
Here is the initial layout idea benches are 2ft wide
will be back soon with updates

AdministratorSeptember 5, 2023 at 1:20 pm in reply to: Happy little accident: Guild neck finish repairHey, I thought I’d try a little extra time machine advice incase anyone runs into this again. You might have hit this with some hot water to free it from the finish. Not sure if it would have worked or if you tried it and it didn’t. It would also depend on the adhesive.
- I would normalize the wound into one large wound so you aren’t trying to edge all those little islands of finish that will become dark with overspray
- I would heap on a generous amount of fill n finish thin as a sealer.
- I would sand back the sealer so that it was level and in doing so I would taper back the color layer around the edges such that it made a gradient of color.
- I would airbrush on color with matte lacquer. I would do some testing, but probably a mixture of transtint medium brown and tobacco brown.
- Clear Coat, buff it out and slap a high five.

Man, I’d love to hear more about toaster heaters.

I’ve been digging my TJ Thompson Router Base. Super accurate. Way less wiggle than a dremmel.

This is our Standard base with an extended (.78”) front. It is best suited for fret slot clearing and widening.

AdministratorSeptember 9, 2023 at 6:38 am in reply to: Doug Propers French polish videosThe Patreon plugin, which is paywalling the site, doesn’t have the ability to wall by tier. Contributing members pay only $1/month but have access to everything. If I set the wall at $1 then everyone will see the Ding Kings content. The compromise is just to link to the Patreon page.

Ive never tried foam cutters, but I think a couple people who tried them both said that the cutters were slightly more resilient.

@nicholaspeshman You just got me off my ass and inspired to make a new resistance heater video. I had all the stuff on my old website which I nuked without consideration a few months ago.
Here is the parts list from McMaster if you’re interested in replication without toaster destruction. This idea comes from the mind of Frank Ford.
