Center drills, or spotting drills, man when my machinist friend told me about those is was a real game changer. No more bridge pin holes on custom bridges where the bottom of the hole was in a different spot that the top of the hole.
Thanks for sharing.

AdministratorNovember 29, 2024 at 7:01 am in reply to: 70’s guild touch upPretty standard stuff. What is happening is just the additive property of the color with dyes. There is color on the edge and where you are adding color to make up for a color deficiency, it’s overlapping and darkening the area that already has color.
Couple things, you can either try harder not to overlap, or scrape back the color.
I often find myself doing this. One key element of this is that as soon as you scrape, you will lower the sheen and it will be impossible to get a good read on what the color is doing. You can normalize the sheen by wiping naptha over it.Also, you lacquer need to be hard to do this. Scraping soft lacquer will make you sad.

Hey, this is great. I also worked at Gruhn’s. I was there from 06-09. We should get you on for an interview to go over your pickup at some point if that would interest you.

I know we have a few members who even run violin rental programs. @patreon_51692460 is one of them. I’ll reach out and see if he has any info. It’s also been on my mind to get some people on to talk about this subject. I will consider this a kick in the britches.

AdministratorNovember 4, 2024 at 7:50 am in reply to: Maxed out trussrodWhat kind of nut is it ? If it isn’t open and you are hitting the end of the threads you can put washers on the end of the rod to get more tighty. If you’re trying to take a shit ton of relief out, sometimes it’s also effective to force the neck into back bow by reefing on it and simultaneously turning the nut. This way you aren’t trying to move the neck with the nut, just trying to keep it in place.

Do you have another roll of filament to try ? I’d try that and run the calibration. Also, what are your slicer settings ? Anything beyond stock ?
-
Are you using an AMS ?
-
It’s pretty easy to take apart. I’d look for stuff either clogging the gear, or stuff embedded in the metal part that pushes the filament. That can make it skip pushes.

Have you pulled the extruder apart to see if anything is gunking it up. also i’d try a different filament . Kinda looks like what wet stuff does, but an extreme example for pla .

AdministratorNovember 10, 2024 at 11:38 am in reply to: 2006 Martin 000C-16GTE Neck Reset Question- M&TI haven’t checked his book, but one thing I like to do is take that insert out, throw one in with a little more bite to the threads and put it in with epoxy. I also cap over the end of the tenon with hard wood and then drill a hole only big enough for the bolt to get trough into the insert. This will prevent the insert from pulling out and you can really snug that thing up.

Unless the footprint is way different I think a 40s bridge would be fine on there. I think he can send them to you sans saddle slot and pin holes too. I would guess that if you needed over size, he could bang thst out . Worth asking, cuz every other repro bridge is gross.
