Jerry Tone Store on Instagram: "Bill Withers released “Sweet Wanomi” in 1971 - while Jerry Garcia Band didn’t really cover Withers tunes outside of a brief specific John Kahn/Merl Saunders lineup in 1979, named Reconstruction - also featuring Gaylord Birch on drums, Ron Stallings on sax, Ed Neumeister on trombone, and the one and only Jerry Garcia on guitar. Picture a high-energy JGB lineup, but with jerry less in bandleader role and more in “funk/jazz guitar shred” role. They didn’t cover this tune specifically, but they did play a couple Withers tunes throughout their 60-show 1979 lineup - songs like “Lovely Night For Dancing” and “Don’t It Make It Better”. Go give the March 7, 1979 San Rafael show a listen…I can totally see this one being included on a set like that! I don’t think there is perfect record of the sets, so maybe there’s a chance it did happen…🤣 #billwithers #jerrytone #jgb #alternateuniverse #deadhead"
