Best practice for volume and tone on acoustics

I want to add volume and tone controls to my acoustic guitars, what are people’s thoughts about how and where to add knobs for that? I just used some of the Schatten archtop pots in the soundhole on a guitar, it worked pretty well but don’t feel particularly durable. I was considering some regular pots on the upper bout, perhaps with some sort of shop made low profile knobs.

Guitars in question would be Selmerish semi traditional looking instruments.
